FINE ARTS AT LAKEWOOD PARK

REDEEMING THE ARTS FOR CHRIST

We are passionate about exploring each student’s unique, God-given talents in music, art, and drama. We guide our students in their PASSIONS while teaching them to use their talents to glorify God. We recognize that CREATIVITY is one of God’s core attributes of his work. ART is a powerful and influential expression of God’s indescribable creativity and the world’s wonderful complexity. Because each person is created in the IMAGE OF GOD as a creative and inventive decision-maker, we are committed to the study of art as a part of an excellent academic education each year. 85% OF OUR STUDENTS participate in the fine arts program.

OUR OFFERINGS

Performance goes beyond the classroom. Our art, band, and vocal teachers are masters in their field and understand that performing arts require performance. They embrace their gifting by competing in nationally recognized events and even winning some along the way. Through their example, students can see that the arts aren’t just classes, but a rewarding lifelong journey.

VISUAL ARTS

In our visual art classes, our students will learn skills and elements that will increase aesthetic awareness, gain an appreciation for forms and styles, learn historical, cultural, and social influences, utilize their learning to critique art, and examine art’s influence on a view of the world from a Christian perspective. We are committed to teaching art because it enhances our students’ perceptions of the beauty of all creation. Students are given the opportunity to participate in art competitions like the Indiana Duck Stamp competition and the Congressional Art Competition.

VOCAL AND THEATRE PERFORMANCE

Our theatre program produces and performs two shows a year, with one scheduled in the fall and the other scheduled in spring. Shows that have been presented in the recent past include Cheaper by the Dozen, Music Man, and the King & I Auditions for on-stage roles are open to all students and the production elements of the shows are student-based. Students can participate as members of the stage crew, construction crew, and, technical crew. Similar to visual arts, our vocal program focuses on community outreach so they can gift their talents outside the school. Students are given opportunities to perform in local concerts, competitions, and even Christmas caroling at a nursing home.

CONCERT BAND

Music is viewed as a God-given gift to humanity. Our music education program strives to build skills that steward this gift for God’s glory. Our curriculum follows the National Standards in exploring melody, rhythm, form, expression, timbre, texture, and harmony in music. Our musicians showcase their talents and hard work with the regional community as they compete through the Indiana State School Music Association and biennial competitions including the Smoky Mountain Festival.
